Does Marketing Work?

I'm a bit late on this post - but it's still very relevant.
As I understand it, John McCain did very little campaigning or advertising in Iowa and had a very poor showing in the primary as a result.
In subsequent primaries, in states where he has advertised and campaigned much more heavily, he has performed pretty well.
So, you tell me...does marketing work?

You and Jim should be working for a campaign... raking in the big $$$!
Seriously, this is the first major election cycle in which presidential candidates are incorporating the kind of back to basics marketing approach that you guys love into their core strategies.
The time of the big ad agency running big budget TV ads and nothing else is over.
Its time for Gravity!
