I absolutely love this post. The BIG ROCKS method is the only way to accomplish what you really want. Otherwise, you end up at the end of the day, week, month, or even year having dug a bunch of sand.

I almost always watch your videos (I'm not sure if I like Jimmy's antics or Travis' reaction the most), but this one especially caught my attention since the Bubble Planner (our company) uses concepts from both Stephen Covey and David Allen | http://www.bubbleplanner.com | Stay Classy!

Greetings Jimmy & Travis

One of the best tools I am using to get more done, is from Dave Lakahni's book "The Power of an Hour". He suggests to have a fearsome focus for 45 minutes--allowing no interruption, calls or emails, etc. Total focus for 45 minutes has created more finished projects than any other method I have used. The remaining 15 is for checking messages, then scheduling them for another hour, restroom, snacks, quick calls--you should schedule your call back within a focused hour.

It takes so long to get your attention back to the big tasks when you allow small interuptions to interfer. Let your people know that you will answer questions at the end of your 45 minute cycle. Multitasking actually creates more wasted time than fearsome focus. Give it a try.

The white board idea was one of many take aways from Travis and Jimmy Vee's Rich Dealer meeting. I have to tell you, I have gotten more accomplished in a shorter amount of time using this method than I ever have before. Big, huge projects that I have had swirling around in my head. I just "thought" I did not have the time to do them. Now I have a set in stone time to work on white board stuff. I have even gone as far as to buy small white boards for all of my dept heads and I now have them hooked on the white board concept. Simple yes, effective yes, can anyone do it, yes, Just do it, as usual these 2 guys are dead on. I might just cover my entire office with white board material.

Whats up guys,

The big rock idea, rocks! I can't even tell you how many days or even weeks have passed in my life when I felt that the day had slipped away. Why? Because I was a wondering generality.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Bill: the bubble planner looks cool. I gonna have to try that out.

Gary: I have used Dave's method too. Actually we use the fearsome focus technique when we attack our big rocks in the day. No interruptions. No phones, no email... nothing. We have a call with Dave on this topic somewhere... I'll have to dig it up for you if you'd like to listen to it.

Kevin: Glad it's been helpful for you and kudos to you for fast implementation. That's awesome. If you want to go all white board, I recently as a paint that creates white board. Paint your walls and then the whole thing is WHITE BOARD. Looks awesome. Check it out at http://www.ideapaint.com/

Hi Jimmy and Travis! The time management tip that has worked for many of my clients is hiring a Virtual Assistant. Tasks such as email management, internet research, or keeping their businesses active on the social networking sites can be delegated to a Virtual Assistant giving them more time with clients. Great blog and and entertaining video!

Thanks Jennifer. We agree. We love virtual assistants and we use several of them. We think everyone should have a VA on call for projects that are "below their pay grade."

Thanks for the comments. You're super duper!
