Air France Crash: iPod or Thunderstorm? -- WTF? Episode #20

WTF? is a daily web show for small business owners and entrepreneurs who want to learn how to naturally attract customers and get the FAME and FORTUNE they deserve.

In this episode, we discuss airplane craziness... like why you can on longer read books on the airplane. With the recent crash of Air France Flight AF447, this is a very relevant topic. Some of our theories may be preposterous but who knows. No disrespect meant here. This has nothing to do with marketing but it is important to time management and getting things done. Hope you enjoy and let us know your thoughts and insights by leaving a comment on the blog.

Thanks for mentioning Delta - I come from a family of Delta pilots. The only time you can't use electronic devices is when you takeoff and land when it could disturb the instrumentation. Any other time it has always been perfectly safe.

I agree with you guys though - I like reading a book when on the plane - I find it most relaxing and a great time to get away. But it's a personal choice for everyone - some people don't read - some people would rather listen to music or watch the in flight movie - we need the choice. Plus it is huge for business - you can still work and collaborate while on long flights - AWESOME.

Wifi should GO!!!!!! Just like I don't want to breathe in someone else's cigarette smoke, I don't want their radiation going through my body without invitation either.

I had one of the worst EMF experiences in O'Hare and no escape on the plane either. I used to love flying. Not since the advent of cell phone and laptop junkies. Gosh, take a break and read a book for a few hours. Life will go on without you being connected. Does anyone know how to relax anymore?

You guys are uneducated idiots. I am a mortgage broker and a pilot. The post from the "family of delta pilots" is misconceived. There are no definitive studies regarding personal electronics aboard an aircraft and their relationship to the avionics on board. It is ridiculous to think that this is OK anytime in flight outside of takeoff and landing. It is also ludicrous to say that this is no good during the takeoff and landing stages. The current regulations are preventative in their form as there is no definitive answer to any of these phases of flight. The worst thing going on here is that after only one day regarding a tragic airline disaster, 2 clowns obviously without any knowledge, joke about weather this could have been caused by an IPOD. Please stop ending me any more emails. WTF yourself ?!
To the Broker/pilot guy: WTF, did you not pay attention to the rest of the video?! you completely missed the point of this video man. If you don't like the email these guys send...uhm at the bottom of the email there is a link that says "Update your contact information or change your subscription options." that means UNSUBSCRIBE!
there, enough time wasted on that guy...

Now, Jim & Travis... I see your point about reading a book or doing things that you wouldn't normally do on a plane before wifi, BUT, I believe that now that there is wifi on planes, you can have the best of both worlds...read a little and tweet a little!

I dunno man! I thought you couldn't have that stuff turned on during flying man! I don't know how I feel about it...like Travis...I think I would feel "obligated" to use it if it's there lol.

i too like to read or listen to music/training when flying...but knowing I am still "connected" could definitely kill all that.

Ahh well...WTF man...choices are good right?

Having spent some time in military jets I have a working theory about using electronics in flight. I think it is more a passenger management issue than a safety concern.

I think the airlines would rather not have to deal with inconsiderate people talking way too loudly on their cell phones so they make us all turn them off in flight. A few bad apples who don't know how to use their "inside voices" are messing it up for the rest of us. ;)

Chris, I agree! I've always thought that same thing. Just wonder what will happen with wifi. Skype? Video messaging? I actually think it's a good business tool (obviously) and a great entertainment tool. BUT, I am a bit despondent about having an extra distraction in flight. One of the last frontiers on "disconnectivity" is disappearing.

You guys are hilarious. yes twying should be illegal! and talk about double stds re. the whole thing where we couldn't use our cellphones etc! Anyway, for me flying is also a respite from daily busy-ness, so take away the WiFi!
